REC Romania

Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) – Country Office Romania

The REC is a non-partisan, non-advocacy, not-for-profit international organisation established in 1990 with a mission to assist in solving environmental problems in Central and Eastern Europe. Through the REC country and field offices in each of its 17 beneficiary countries, it promotes cooperation among non-governmental organisations, governments, businesses, media and other environmental stakeholders, and supports the free exchange of information and public participation in environmental decision-making.

Not at least importance, the technical assistance provided to local authorities in the form of LEAP (Local Environmental Action Plans), as cooperative planning mechanisms to promote sustainability and the know-how transferred to the business sector in areas of Energy Efficiency and Environmental Management Systems have increased the profile of REC Romania among these stakeholders, while in the same time, enabled REC to better understand the challenges and needs on the ground.
